I had heard stories that Old Phandalin had been a popular place for gnomes and dwarves, and that there had been some kind of “magical cave” nearby. It had been the obsession of the Rockseeker family. Torick Rockseeker, a descendent of this family, found a map to this cave and brought it to use, asking us to check it out. We have explored some of the dungeon before retreating to the entrance to rest.
Hob casts Arcane Eye to scope out the dungeon. While we huddle around Hob, listening to his account of what he sees, ochre jellies ooze through the walls and attack! When they are dispensed with, Hob continues the reconnaissance via Arcane Eye, and we get a good sense of the layout of the dungeon.
We delve and fend off the attacks of darkmantles and piercers. It’s a harder fight than we expected, especially after a roper makes an appearance, and Hob drops a fireball that captures Norbus in its fire. We move on and explore, dispatching skeletons and searching rooms. We kill some ghouls and a ghast at the site of a great battle. We come upon an old blast furnace.
We come upon a room radiating with evocation magic. We open the door and hear a voice in our minds. We shut the door.
